What Can You Check Before Calling for AC Repair?
There are a few safe checks you can make before calling for service. These steps can sometimes rule out a simple issue, but you should not take apart equipment or work near electrical components.
Check that your thermostat is set to cooling mode and that the temperature is set lower than the current room temperature. Look at your air filter and replace it if it is dirty. You can also check the circuit breaker once, but do not keep resetting it if it trips again.
If you notice burning smells, smoke, sparks, water near electrical parts, or repeated shutdowns, turn the system off if you can do so safely. Then call for professional service.
